About

lbcWhen the Lafayette Brewing Co. opened our doors on September 17, 1993, we marked the return of the brewer's art to the city of Lafayette after a near forty year absence. With a history of operating breweries dating back to the 1860s, the last in a line of proud local breweries, Lafayette Brewery, Inc. (known as Thieme & Wagner prior to Prohibition), had closed its doors in 1953, leaving a great void in the local beer scene. As a result, local residents' beer choices were limited to the bland, mass-produced malt beverages from national brewers.

Fortunately, the installation of our tiny ale brewery in a historic, turn-of-the-century building at 622 Main St. brought with it the return of fresh, handcrafted ales brewed in the Old World tradition. A far cry from the mainstream mega-brewery products, our Lafayette Brewing Co. ales are produced from only the finest malted barley, generous amounts of fresh hops, water and specially selected ale yeasts. The end result is a wide selection of unfiltered, unpasteurized ales in a variety of classic beer styles. What's more, the fine brews crafted at Lafayette Brewing have been recognized for their excellence. Our brewery has received numerous awards at the World Beer Championships and the Indiana State Fair and has been recognized as a "Best of the Great Lakes" brewery in author John Bice's Tap Into the Great Lakes.

Lafayette Brewing Co. award-winning ales can be enjoyed at the peak of freshness directly from the serving tanks and make the perfect complement to the tasty pub fare in our restaurant. Our diverse menu features an array of hearty dishes- from hand-cut American bison steaks and fresh seafood to homemade soups, unique sandwiches and superb burgers. Daily lunch and dinner specials provide the perfect complement to our already outstanding menu. Look for a rotating variety of special appetizers, soups, sandwiches, dinner entrees & more! Inquire with your server about the day's offerings.

With the help of a grant from the City of Lafayette, we completed renovations on the second story of our historic downtown building in May of 2002. The project successfully focused on restoring much of the historic character of the building. Original flooring, ceiling joists and a beautiful hardwood staircase were all restored. Local Trompe L'oielartist Randee Rankin added a wonderful brewery-themed mural to complete the renovation and add a warm, comfortable character to the open space. TVs, pool tables, foosball and darts provide plenty of amusement while our Second Floor stage plays host to some of the area's finest live entertainment:- from accomplished local musicians and comics to national and international recording artists.

In the meantime, we've continued to include additional amenities to our second floor facility. In the fall of 2003, our Second Floor Pizza Kitchen began serving up some of the tastiest pies and sandwiches in the area. Consistent with our overall philosophy, our signature line-up of pizzas and sandwiches are made with top-quality ingredients. October of 2004 saw the first spirits poured at LBC. With the assistance of the City of Layette and the State of Indiana's Riverfront Development District program, we were able to secure a liquor permit for our facility. We now pour a selection of premium distilled spirits from our second floor bar that complement our line-up of award-winning ales.
